Rattlesnake Point Public School & Childcare Centre

The design for this three-storey school includes eight kindergarten rooms, a double gym located at the front of the school and a Library Learning Commons centrally located on the second floor level.

With technology enabled throughout, the plan organizes the program areas into academic and active wings. The design has planned for flexibility now and for the future, with opportunities for collaborative space throughout the school.

The double height entry space creates a clear identity for the building. The main entrance, lobby and gathering area are located at the midpoint of the main corridor with direct visual connection from the main entrance through the glass lobby and gathering area to all corridors on the main floor to the second floor. This is envisioned as the heart of the school.

One of the main challenges on this project has been to obtain site plan approval streamed concurrently with final subdivision approval. This has required developing close relationships with Town and Regional staff and with the subdivision developers and their consultants. +VG advocated for experiment with a school bus layby on the street which is a new approach in Milton.

The new building features LEED® Basic Equivalency – enhanced energy savings. The goal is to achieve 15% more efficiency than current OBC Standards.
